Rebirth of an Icon

Overview: 
In 1961, Halston’s Pillbox hat for Jackie O. whet the appetite of fashion mavens around the globe.  The delectable little pink fashion confection gave birth to an American Icon.   His first major show in Paris took fashion from couture to sportswear and during the next 2 decades, Halston established himself as the leading designer for the chic American Jet-Set trendsetter and tastemaker.

Neophyte designers like Tom Ford, Donna Karen and Diane Von Furstenberg looked to Halston as the key to their inspiration.

In the 1990’s, the brand suffered a major downturn with the departure of Halston.

Objective:
Art Zulu was hired to develop a comprehensive portfolio that would facilitate the classic brand’s multi-million dollar sale and resuscitation into a venerable fashion house. Art Zulu mined the brand equity from collectors and archives all over the world to assemble its most poignant visual assets into an elegant video, a fashion-forward website and a book of the brand’s history and possible future.

Program:
Art Zulu researched the origins of Halston to create an archive and developed the ultimate style portfolio, assembled the most poignant visual assets to create an elegant video presentation detailing the complete history of the fashion icon and his empire.  Building on the archival research, Art Zulu showcased the timeless appeal with a fashion forward website and a book of the brand’s history an inevitable future.

Art Zulu created an online presence for the current Halston collection, sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman and high-end boutiques in Paris.

Results:
Harvey Weinstein, film producer, and Tamara Mellon, co-founder of Jimmy Choo, a luxury brand that offers designer shoes, were sold on the package and purchased the brand in 2007. Halston is considered one of the foremost American brands of the fashion world, boasting a legacy that dates back almost 40 years. Art Zulu was excited to participate in the next phase of the iconic fashion house’s successful relaunch.
